My maternal grandma Hattie used one of these until well into the 1980s, sans clothes drier (she had clotheslines inside and outdoors, depending on the weather in Glenham, SD on wash day).

We had a clotheline in the backyard as well, and my mom used it whenever possible; in Rapid City that included days throughout the year. There’s truly nothing like the smell of air-dried laundry.
