This is our friend Mochi’s washing machine.

The Japanese have been recycling their bathwater for a long time. Since washing machines are usually located next to the bathroom, it’s simply a matter of syphoning water old bathwater from the tub into the washing machine. Japanese families share their bathwater, keeping it for several days and reheating it with a built-in boiler system.

Whereas this used to be a manual process involving a sperate pump, modern washing machines come with a special hose and filter attachment built-in.

The next step will be bath systems that have this feature plumbed-in, thus eliminating the hose and allowing the washing machine to be placed anywhere in the house.
